Beryl D. Bergschneider, age 84, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Rochester, Minnesota, died at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, August 20, 2011. He was born on March 5, 1927, in Levasy, Missouri to Herbert Bergschneider and Gladys Ryan Bergschneider. He grew up in Buckner, MO with his brother and two sisters. Beryl graduated from Buckner High School in May of 1945 and was then drafted into the U.S. Army. After his service, he started college at the University of Missouri in Columbia where he met his loving wife, Leanna Linhart Bergschneider. They were married there on June 3, 1951.
Beryl graduated from the University of Missouri in 1952 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He went to work for IBM after graduation and spent 54 years with a company he was passionate about. He worked in Endicott, NY, Rochester, MN, and lastly Austin, TX prior to retirement. He loved the challenges of his work at IBM.
Beryl loved his family and they were the main focus of his life. He celebrated his 60th Wedding Anniversary with Leanna and family in June. He was dedicated and loyal to his children and grandchildren and supportive of their interests and activities.
Beryl was a long time member of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. He was active in the Garden Club of Austin, Austin Genealogical Society, and was program chair for Austin Computer Club for many years.
Beryl was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Larry Battles. He is survived by his wife, Leanna; children, Debra (Dick) Rossman of Bemidji, MN, Janet Bergschneider of Santa Barbara, CA, Kevin (Carolyn) Bergschneider of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Katie and Megan Rossman, Sam, Jensen, and Emerson Steady, and Ian and Avery Bergschneider; brothers and sisters, Ethan Bergschneider (Mona) of Merritt Island, FL, Donna Battles of Buckner, MO, and Sharon Wulfekammer (John) of Joplin, MO; and by two nieces and four nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, in Austin. Services will be held in Buckner, Missouri on Saturday, August 27, 2011 with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Speaks Buckner Chapel and burial at Buckner Hill Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
