Robert E. Galvin, age 84, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. He was born August 22, 1929, in Independence, the son of the late Earl and Martha Chiles Galvin.
On August 6, 1949, in Buckner, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Gretchen E. Burns, who survives the home.
Robert was a United States Air Force veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church in Laurie, the Sunrise Beach Shawnee Bend 1 Crime Watch, the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach where he was active in the Honor Guard and the Legion Riders and was a past member of the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie.
In addition to his wife, Gretchen, he is survived by his sons, Raymond E. Galvin and wife Sheryl of Clever, Missouri and Keith A. Galvin and wife Rachel of Raymore, Missouri; his daughter, Debbie Maples and husband Deryck of Blue Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kelly Keithley, Jason Galvin, Katelyn Galvin, Rebecca Galvin, Jamie Etters and Jodie Vickers; six great-grandchildren, Oren and Nolan Keithley, Spencer and Hayden Etters and Macie and Easton Vickers; his sister, Shirley Campbell and husband Ivan of Buckner, Missouri and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15th, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel with Pastor Rick Bell and Bill Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 16th, at the Speaks Buckner Chapel in Buckner, Missouri, with a graveside service to follow at 2:15 p.m., in the Buckner Hill Cemetery with Pastor Charles Funderburk officiating.
